(Author Sandy Bloom) After being burned in a terrorist attack, my husband Dov and I spent almost six weeks in Hadassah Hospital, in the plastic surgery and burn unit. I was "only" burned 20%, which meant I had to endure the Jobst garments, the pain, the itching, the surgeries and skin grafts. Thank G-d, I'm fine today and don't often think about the terrorist attack or the
burns. I remember the Jobst garments and how expensive they were. I guess Dov and I were "lucky".Since we were burned in a terrorist attack, the Israeli medical insurance paid for everything. Other burn patients are not so "lucky" and have to pay out of their own pocket. One of my memories of that time is that my husband led the prayers for Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur, the year after the terrorist attack. When he got to, "Who by water, who by fire,” he stopped. We both spoke to G-d then from our hearts. Every year, during these prayers, I remember. Today, years later, I see that a support group is sorely needed for burn victims. |
