For Parents: 8 Tips to Prevent Burns PDF Print E-mail
Shabbos and Yom Tov are festive times, with candles burning and smells of food cooking in the kitchen. These are also the times when many burns happen. With these eight tips you can help keep your family safe and prevent burns.

Please cut and paste these tips on your fridge, and pass them along to friends. Together we can prevent burn accidents!

1. Keep matches out of reach of children. Children have been burned even with their parents standing right nearby.
2. Keep candles, and fires on the stove, away from curtains.
3. Keep children far away from the stove, and candles.
4. Make sure that your pot handles on the stove face inward toward the back of the stove, so children can’t grab them. One baby in her mother’s arms pulled off a pot of hot soup!
5. Make sure coffee urns, crock pots, and their cords are away from the reach of young children.
6. Keep hot liquids like coffee and soup out of the reach of children who are sitting on your lap or in high chairs. Keep baby strollers and high chairs away from tables with hot liquids. Children love to grab and pull on things.
7. Buy a fire extinguisher, and read the directions.
8. Take your family on safety tour around the house to  look for frayed or hanging electric cords. Change fire alarm batteries. Turn down the water heater temperature. Listen to everyone’s safety ideas to prevent  burns!
