Chaya Malka Burn Foundation, Inc.Dear Friends,After suffering severe second and third degree burns over 85% of my body and my subsequent recovery amidst tremendous loving kindness, only one question remained. How would I show my gratitude for receiving my life a second time? During the last nine years, as I spoke publicly about my story, portrayed in the book, Who by Fire, people sought me out to share their own tragic stories. I became an experienced listener and helped as best I could. In the summer of 2003, I started an organization to counsel and support burn victims and their families, Chaya Malka Burn Foundation, Inc. Terrorism and attacks on a targeted public create many burn victims.(The 9/11 attack gave Americans a taste of what Israelis have lived with daily for years.) Speaking to groups about my experience, I am able to give much hope and support to those whose flesh was scorched in flames of incinerated busses and blazing cafes. They are encouraged and inspired to hear that I was able to rebuild my life, have more children and resume domestic and artistic pursuits, despite my injuries. I speak regularly in front of audiences of hundreds of people. Young burn victims come to understand they need not hide from the public eye. Shame is replaced by pride, bitterness is replaced by gratitude. I am eager continue this crucial work. With continued financial aid, we will be able to:
With your generous help, my dreams will become reality and many who suffer will receive healing and comfort. |
