If clothes are on fire, douse the clothes with water, or use Stop, Drop and Roll to smother the flames if no water is around! If there is hot liquid on the clothes, such as boiling water, remove victim’s clothing gently, so no skin gets pulled off with the clothes.

If You Smell Gas…. PDF Print E-mail
Natural gas has an excellent safety record when it is used properly.  Nonetheless, gas sometimes leaks.  Here is what the American Gas Association and other experts suggest when you smell gas in a home:

  • Alert others and leave immediately.  Remember: any spark can ignite gas if concentrations are high.
  • Leave doors open for ventilation, but don’t stop to open windows.
  • Don’t operate any electrical equipment, including telephones and flashlights.
  • Call your gas company from a telephone outside the area.
If you smell gas outside a building, call the gas company from outside the area.  The most common cause of outside gas leaks is from excavation or construction that disturbs pipelines.

About Boiling Water PDF Print E-mail

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup, he noted that the! water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup "blew up" into his face. The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had flown out into his face due to the build up of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face which may leave scaring.
